Must I Fast & Pray?

It's almost like a tradition now, almost every church and Christian organization in the world today go on fasting and prayer at the beginning of every year!
But then again, results becomes limited when you work without understanding! So in this post I bring you a simple explanation on why you should fast and pray and not just do because everyone is doing it!

Where did it come from.

Fasting is known as a voluntary going without food in order to focus on prayer and fellowshiping with God. You see fasting and prayer goes hand in hand!

Though we are not specifically commanded in the Bible to spend time in fasting and prayers but going through the bible carefully, we get to understand that it's certainly what every believer after an encounter and lifting should engage in.

Like in Exo.34:28; Moses fasted 40 days/nights on Mount sinai receiving the Law from God.
In 2Chro.20:3; king Jehoshapt called the people of Judah to fast and pray when war was waged against them by the Moabites.
Even an enemy of Daniel, King Darius of Persia fasted for Daniels sake. Dan.6:18

In the new testament, we see Jesus fasting 40 days/Nights before He began His ministry. Matt. 4:2
Mark 2:18; John taught his disciples to fast. And also in Acts 13:2; the Church fasted and prayed for guidance before sending out Paul and Barnabas!

So fasting and prayer is not a strategy conjured by modern churches to take your seeds or offerings, it has been in the church and will continue till Jesus come!

So Why Fast and Pray?
The focus of fasting is not to abstain from food, but rather, fasting takes your eyes from the affairs of the world laying them on God.
It's in this time you're humbled and your flesh is subdued against all form of canality!

2 Chronicles  7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Please understand that as much as fasting and prayers are means to getting results and possessing ones redemptive inheritance, fasting and prayer is not automatically effective in accomplishing the desires of those who fast.
God has promised to hear you when you pray irrespective of your fasting! As long as you are living His will, He's  always ready to answer your prayers! (See 1JN 5:14-15, Jere.33:3, Isa. 65:24)

Reasons to fast!
  • Fasting disciplines your flesh and help your spirit sync with Gods!
  • Your Spirit man thrives when fasting!
  • You become Spiritually discerned and sensitive!
  • You become more receptive to God's plans for you!
  • Your Faith is fired up and your understanding becomes in-depth!
  • Finally, you take hold of your possession in the Spiritual Realms, understanding that the spiritual controls the physical!

Like I keep saying, truly understanding is key!
You might also want to know that though prophecies are ordained to come to pass, they are to be battled out in prayers,
Hence,  we have Prophet Elijah praying again and again for abundance of rain after He had declared it. (See 1kings 18:41-45)

So also understand that one major reason churches go on fasting and prayers at the beginning of every year is to pray for the fulfillment of every prophetic declaration concerning that year.
You might want to join in if you want same results!

Hope your understanding is opened and you have been blessed! I hope to hear from you, again you can partner with us by sharing, be blessed, #Binspired!
